Craig Armstrong & Dalziel+Scullion

Short Video Sample (20mb QuickTime)

On Tuesday 10th October, I headed on up from Birmingham to Glasgow to see the ‘Once’ exhibition at the recently reopened Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

'Once' is a unique collaboration between artists Dalziel + Scullion and composer Craig Armstrong. The video installation piece was specially commissioned to celebrate the reopening of Kelvingrove. The work consists of over 200 video portraits shot in Glasgow, set to music composed by Craig and then remixed by AGF.

Craig's piece of music entitled 'Memory Takes My Hand' is comprised of 12 movements, with a running time of around 35 minutes. The music has some glorious cinematic qualities, combined with some quite ethereal moments.

  1. Us
  2. World
  3. Age (Once)
  4. Taittiriya Upanisad
  5. Recovering
  6. One Day
  7. North
  8. Glasgow
  9. As We Loved
  10. Risen
  11. The World Shall Turn
  12. Many

If you’re a fan of Craig’s work, then you should really make the effort to go and see this exhibition. The music is beautiful and accompanies the images perfectly. If you are thinking of heading up to Glasgow to see it, then below are some website links, that I found useful.
