According to the film magazine Empire, Craig Armstrong's score to Plunkett and Macleane was one of the best to come out of the 90's.
The score is a classic example of Armstrong's ability to combine "classical" and "modern" music traditions without really giving preference to one or the other. An example of this is 'Ball', which adds a very modern dance beat and echo effect to a piece which is, at its core, very Baroque and restrained. This style is further exemplified in 'Business Pt1 Pt2 Pt3', another great thumping track.
One of the most popular tracks composed by Armstrong is 'Escape'. Here, all the elements of the score are drawn together - the epic choir, the orchestra, and the driving electronic beat - it's a track which demands use of the "repeat" button.
